These realities, however, are not created by the media. They are the realities that exist within the society the media serves. Others maintain that the media’s first responsibility is to truthfully report the realities of society, regardless of how difficult those realities may be to confront. That trust, however, has often been difficult to build in a society where historical experiences and personal loyalties continue to shape perspectives. Beyond political institutions, there must also be a greater role for citizens, community leaders, civil society organisations and individuals committed to the wider good of T&T.
