Crews were called to the incident on Hopwood Street at around 7.20pm last night, Tuesday. Firefighters used specialist tools to gain entry to the building, where firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish a fire. The property was monitored throughout using a thermal imaging camera before a high-pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke from the premises. Police also attended the incident, which is believed to have been started accidentally. One fire engine from Birchwood attended, as well as one from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
