A Green Party mayor has been accused of 'staggering insensitivity' after she wrote to an Israeli city to end a twinning agreement – and gave them a deadline of October 7 to respond. The choice of date has prompted accusations of Mayor Garbett being 'provocative', 'crass' and 'sinister'. Last night Hackney Council apologised and explained the choice of date was an 'error', adding it had now been changed to October 5. A Hackney Council spokesperson confirmed the date set for the de-twinning consultation would be changed. The Daily Mail has contacted Mayor Garbett and the Green Party for comment.
