The men’s title, won by Australia’s Ky Robinson, ended Uganda’s remarkable winning streak in the event, which had stretched back to the 2006 Games.
The win marked Australia’s first track gold medal of the Games and made Davies the first Australian to win the event.
The following day, in rainy conditions, Robinson, a former NCAA champion at Stanford University, claimed the men’s 10,000m crown in 27:48.93, completing the sweep and earning Australia the title of 10,000m nation.
Robinson is the first Aussie man to win the Commonwealth 10,000m title since 1958.
