Production has begun in Ingushetia on a feature film entitled Heroes of Zaporizhzhia (‘Geroi Zaporozhya’), dedicated to the fighting of Russia’s National Guard (Rosgvardiya) in the full-scale war against Ukraine. According to the broadcaster, the film will centre on Rosgvardiya personnel who took part in the seizure of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant during the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The project’s creator, Magomed Barkhanoev, said the film is intended as a tool for the ‘military-patriotic education of young people’. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power station, was seized by Russian forces in early March 2022 and has remained under Russian control ever since. Since 2022, more than 10 feature films about the full-scale war in Ukraine have been produced in Russia, many of them with state funding.
