Forty sea eagles are to be fitted with satellite tags across the west of Scotland in a NatureScot-funded sea eagle tagging project to establish how the birds interact with lambs and sheep. Why are sea eagles being tagged? Alongside the eagle tagging, SRUC researchers are tracking lambs in Argyll with GPS neck collars, building a picture of how flocks and eagles move around the same ground. Georgia Watson, NFU Scotland’s policy manager for climate, land and business, said: “NFU Scotland supports this satellite tagging project as a vital step towards building a clear, shared evidence base on sea eagle behaviour. Tagging will run over two years, with the data reported to the National Sea Eagle Stakeholder Group, which oversees the management scheme for the reintroduced population.
