According to Hach, continuous Total Organic Carbon (TOC) monitoring is giving processors greater visibility over these losses, helping plants recover value that would otherwise be wasted. Industry estimates suggest dairy processors lose between 2 and 3 per cent of production annually through product entering wastewater streams. TOC monitoring provides an alternative by continuously measuring the carbon content of organic matter in wastewater. By reducing product entering wastewater, processors may lower treatment costs, reduce water and energy use and minimise the risk of exceeding discharge limits.
