Funding was secured for the crossing in February, following representations to Cumberland Council by its elected member for Bransty, Joseph Ghayouba. And Coun Ghayouba shared the news on Tuesday that Cumberland Council is due to install the pedestrian crossing on New Road this financial year. Coun Ghayouba said that he is also continuing to push for a crossing on the Loop Road side. Coun Ghayouba and Coun Rollo are working to get both pedestrian crossings delivered at the same time. Residents have raised concerns to Coun Ghayouba about vehicles speeding and narrowly missing pedestrians on the sections of road since his election in 2023.
