Portfolio holder Richard Biggs said the new plan, which has national backing, would provide what he describes as a ‘road map’ to ensure everyone was pulling in the same direction.
Speaking at the July Dorset Council Cabinet meeting he said: “It’s not about just attracting more tourists it’s about managing tourism better.
“Success isn’t simply about attracting more visitors it’s about the right visitors, increasing year-round tourism and increasing the value visitors bring to local businesses and making sure that tourism work for residents as well as for visitors,” said Cllr Biggs (Poundbury, Lib Dem).
Mr Biggs said the plan would help spread the word about Dorset’s attractions more successfully and encourage sustainable tourism.
Cllr Ben Wilson (Purbeck) welcomed the report and the ambition to make Dorset a year-round attraction.
