Two individuals have been charged with home invasion and animal cruelty after allegedly breaking into a residence in unincorporated Naperville and fatally shooting a dog, authorities said.
About 1:15 p.m. July 27, sheriff’s deputies responded to the 30W000 block of Capistrano Court for a reported home invasion.
Deputies learned that the resident allegedly had been pepper sprayed inside his apartment and that his 3-year-old dog was fatally shot during the incident, according to the release.
“The level of cruelty alleged in this case is heartbreaking and extremely disturbing,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release.
“This case highlights the outstanding teamwork between our patrol division, detectives, forensic identification unit, animal control and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office,” DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick said in the release.
