Kankakee County correctional officer terminated after making racist comments in video

A Kankakee County corrections officer was fired Wednesday after a video was posted on social media in which the off-duty officer made a racist comment.
“This type of language and conduct has no place in the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office or within our community,” Sheriff Mike Downey said in a news release.
Downey said after consulting with Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe, the officer was terminated.
The discussion comprised most of the hourlong bimonthly meeting of the Kankakee County Law Enforcement meeting.
In a statement posted on Facebook by the Kankakee County Branch of the NAACP said:“The NAACP Kankakee County Branch appreciates Sheriff Mike Downey and the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office for their swift and decisive response to this incident.
