Tony Collier, who lives on Hanters Hill on the Powys and Herefordshire border, was alerted to the fire by a passerby on July 22 and arrived on scene to find the hillside “ablaze.”
The fire eventually spread towards his property, reaching heights of around 30 feet and leaving much of the hill burnt.
Mr Collier said the incident in the late afternoon was "mayhem", with walls of flames scaling 30 feet high.
He said he later witnessed “fire tornadoes” forming and racing across the hill as dozens of firefighters battled it.
Tony Collier, the only full-time resident of Hanter Hill, said flames rose to over 30feet high.
