Two herds of Cheviot goats have taken up temporary residence on Sutton Heath to help manage the landscape in an environmentally friendly way. East Suffolk Council is running the project until the end of September, using the goats’ natural grazing habits to control scrub growth and protect sensitive heathland habitats. The goats are fitted with GPS collars to keep them within designated areas, with fencing as a secondary precaution. Michael Ryder, Countryside Officer at East Suffolk Services Ltd (ESSL), said: "It’s great to see the goats back here at Sutton Heath for another season as they play a vital role in managing this rare and sensitive habitat.
