LATEST DUNWICH FIRE NEWS: 'Dynamic' heath wildfire declared major incident as homes evacuatedThe blaze is currently tearing through Dunwich Heath, near the Coastguard Cottages, and is spreading south-west towards St James' Church, off Westleton Road. Clouds of smoke are visible from as far as Leiston and people in Lowestoft have reported smelling the smoke. Fourteen fire appliances are currently in attendance, but hot and windy conditions are creating significant challenges for crews and contributing to fire spread. Crews have been using a range of specialist equipment and resources to tackle the fire, including Unimogs, drones and 4x4 quad bikes. A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue is also urging residents affected by smoke to keep windows and doors closed where possible.
