The Free Speech Union has one question. Last month, the New Zealand College of Clinical Psychologists censored a Māori clinical psychologist’s peer-reviewed article from its own journal, on the grounds that keeping it available could cause “harm” to Māori. Dr Mitchell’s article, He Wero Anō: Don’t Just Tell Me, Show Me How Science and Psychology Are Racist in New Zealand, included a critique of the 2024 WERO report on systemic racism in psychology. “A Māori psychologist had her work erased by her own professional body, in the name of protecting Māori,” said Free Speech Union Executive Director Jillaine Heather.
