Another Short SH8 Closure For Pest ControlCentral Otago road users are being reminded about a further short closure of State Highway 8 through the Cromwell Gorge scheduled for this weekend to allow pest control operations to take place.

20 July 2026 – Short closures to keep SH8 users safe from pestsUsers of State Highway 8 through the Cromwell Gorge in Central Otago are being advised of short weekend closures coming up to allow important pest control work to be carried out.
These closures will allow NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and pest management staff to safely carry out helicopter pest control work on the steep slopes near the highway.
The helicopter control work from this Sunday is weather dependent, so people can check if there is any change to the schedule at NZTA’s Journey Planner site.
