KOA Hails CCHL Decision To Reject DP World's Bid To Lease LPC's OperationsKeep Our Assets (KOA) is pleased that Christchurch City Holdings Ltd (CCHL) has rejected the unsolicited proposal from the Tonui Consortium (comprising DP World and three runanga) to acquire a long term lease of Lyttelton Port Company's (LPC) operations. Lyttelton Port is a vital strategic asset for Christchurch, Canterbury, the South Island and, indeed, the whole country. So, it is vital that it remain in public ownership and control, subject to democratic accountability through the elected Christchurch City Council. KOA congratulates the port unions and grassroots community groups who have successfully campaigned to keep our port public. It would have been particularly egreous if DP World, 100% State-owned by the United Arab Emirates, had got its sticky fingers on Lyttelton's revenue stream.
