Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Myanmar has agreed to take back 5,000 Rohingya currently in Malaysia following discussions between the two countries.
JELEBU : Myanmar has agreed to take back 5,000 Rohingya refugees in Malaysia following negotiations between the two countries, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said this was an initial step towards addressing the Rohingya refugee issue, and would also help preserve public order in Malaysia.
Police said 113 of them were relocated to three states yesterday after being temporarily housed at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.
Anwar also said Myanmar had agreed to take back about 300,000 Rohingya currently in Bangladesh.
