Hlungwani, who is also chair of the Middle Letaba Water Users Association, says he is among 72 farmers still waiting for irrigation water to be provided by the Giyani Water Project.
The bulk water project began in 2014 and was expected to be completed by 2017.
“Each water minister made promises, but none delivered a solution,” says Hlungwani.
Had the Giyani water project been successful, Hlungwani and other farmers would be in a very different situation today.
History of the Giyani water projectGroundUp first mentioned the Giyani bulk water project in an op ed in 2019, when the Polokwane office of Lepelle Northern Water was raided by the Special Investigating Unit in connection with the project.
