On Monday, Owen Sound council approved a July 22 recommendation of its community services committee to transfer the four clock faces, clockworks and five bells to the Grey Roots Museum and Archives.
“Grey Roots is pleased to welcome these artifacts into our permanent collection, where they’ll be conserved, exhibited and made accessible to researchers and visitors for generations to come,” Grey Roots curator Sim Salata said in the news release.
“This transfer means the City of Owen Sound’s Old City Hall history will now be part of Grey Roots’ physical and online collections, cared for alongside the rest of Grey Couny’s heritage.”
City council considered incorporating the items into the city hall renovations in 2018, but did not due to cost.
Last fall, city council agreed to temporarily loan three bells, two clock faces and the clock mechanism for a Grey Roots exhibit called Living Histories: Grey County.
