Puca (Big Brown), who produced three straight Grade I winners, has been named the 2025 National Broodmare of the Year, the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) announced Wednesday. The 14-year-old mare is the dam of 2023 GI Kentucky Derby winner Mage (Good Magic), 2024 GI Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch (Good Magic), and 2025 GI Pennsylvania Derby winner Baeza (McKinzie). She is only the ninth broodmare in history to produce a pair of American Triple Crown race winners. Two months after Baeza sold for $1.2 million at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, Puca sold for $2.9 million to Resolute Racing at the Keeneland November sale. Now residing at Ace Stud in Newmarket, England, Puca was bred to Spendthrift Farm's multiple leading sire Into Mischief this year.
