What started as a backyard project quickly turned into an internet mystery after a Minnesota woman uncovered what appeared to be a gravestone buried behind her shed.
Recommended VideosThe marker appeared to bear the surname “Shaughnessy,” along with the names John D. Shaughnessy, born in 1946, and Louise (Schaefer), born in 1936.
That detail immediately caught viewers’ attention and fueled speculation about how the marker ended up buried in a residential backyard.
“Louise S. Shaughnessy,” the commenter wrote, referring to an obituary stating that Louise Susan “Lou” Shaughnessy died in February 2026 at age 89 in Minnesota.
John Daniel Shaughnessy (born 1946) survived Louise upon her passing in early 2026, which further explains why his death date was not on the marker.
