PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Portsmouth City Council will meet in special session Thursday to repeal a street levy ordinance it passed just days earlier, after the state provided new required wording for the ballot measure asking voters to renew the city’s street resurfacing levy.
The special session is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 500 Chillicothe St., according to the meeting agenda.
30 of 2026 and review and resubmit to voters a proposed renewal levy for street resurfacing, using new language required by the state, the agenda said.
Council had been weighing the levy renewal after determining the maximum tax rate allowed without a public vote would not generate enough money to fund street resurfacing work.
30, only for the state to require different wording, prompting Thursday’s special session to fix it.
