The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) is celebrating its 50th anniversary with Harlem Week. Based in East Harlem, CCCADI served as a connecting point between the east and west sides of the neighborhood during Harlem Week. This year, CCCADI will present the Afribembé festival on Aug. 16 during Harlem Week, a “jam session” celebrating traditions from throughout the African diaspora. This year’s Harlem Week is particularly fitting for CCCADI, with the theme “Honoring Our Legacy” coinciding with the organization’s 50th anniversary. “Through music, through costumes, through a visual arts exhibition, through song, through dance, you connect [and] you remember,” Capote said.
