A second group of young Antiguans and Barbudans has begun hands-on training through the Maritime Apprenticeship Programme, an initiative aimed at preparing the next generation of professionals for careers in the maritime industry.
The programme, a partnership between Tropical Shipping, the Port Management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC), and the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority, provides practical workplace experience for participants interested in maritime careers.
Launched in 2025 to strengthen the link between education and industry, the initiative offers apprentices direct exposure to shipping, port operations, logistics, and the wider maritime sector.
Following a successful inaugural year, the programme has returned in 2026 with a new cohort of aspiring maritime professionals.
Over the next six weeks, the apprentices will take part in a structured training programme combining workplace experience with mentorship from industry professionals.
