Hundreds of children are taking to the streets of St. John’s this afternoon as the rescheduled 2026 Junior Carnival parade gets underway after being postponed earlier this week because of adverse weather conditions.
The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission delayed the event from Sunday, July 26, citing persistent rainfall and thunderstorm activity that made the parade route unsafe for participants and spectators.
The Commission said at the time that the decision was made after considering current and forecast weather conditions, with the safety and well-being of children, parents, spectators and the wider public remaining its top priority.
Junior Carnival is now being held from 1 p.m. on Wednesday, with young masqueraders, schools and children’s troupes showcasing their costumes and performances through the streets of the capital.
