PIONEER WOMANDEAD PHILOMATH———Mrs. Justina Newton, past eighty years of age, died at her home in Philomath last night and the funeral will be held at the U.
— The funeral of Mrs. Justina Newton, who died here Tuesday night, was held Wednesday from the First United Brethren Church, Rev.
Mrs. Newton with her family was one of the earliest settlers in Benton County.
Her father, William Knotts, settled on a claim two and one-half miles from Corvallis, where the daughter, Justina, was married to Norris P. Newton in 1853.
Six children survive: Abiatha B. Newton, Walter H. Newton, Cynthia Henkle, of Philomath; Harvey C. Newton and Ernest P. Newton, of South Bend, Wash., and Laura Haines of Portland.
