Glen Hansard, the Irish singer and songwriter who catapulted to from relative obscurity to the stage of the Dolby Theatre with the film Once, has died at the age of 56.
The film became an instant sensation at that year's Sundance Film Festival, ahead of a limited roll-out in the U.S. the following May.
Hansard penned the majority of the original songs on the soundtrack, including "Falling Slowly" with his partner in the musical duo the Swell Season, Markéta Irglová.
Hansard would eventually win a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album off of the stage production.
He participated as an interviewee and performer in the documentary Bono and the Edge: A Sort of Homecoming, With David Letterman.
