The Zamfara State Executive Council has approved ₦6.271 billion for the procurement of 100 tractors, farm implements and the establishment of an Agricultural Mechanisation Hub in Gusau. The approval was granted during the council’s 13th meeting following a memorandum presented by the Commissioner for Agriculture. According to the government, the mechanisation programme is being implemented through the Bank of Agriculture with participating states accessing agricultural machinery at a 40 per cent subsidy. The Agri-Hub will provide mechanisation services, equipment maintenance, farmers’ training, commodity aggregation, storage facilities, extension services, market linkages and digital financial services. The tractors will operate under a pay-as-you-service model to enable farmers access affordable mechanised farming while ensuring sustainability of the programme.
