Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard has died at the age of 56 following a motorcycle collision in Dublin early this morning. The Frames frontman and Oscar-winning musician sustained fatal injuries when the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a single-vehicle collision at Strawberry Beds, Lucan, shortly before 4:30am. Hansard achieved international recognition through the 2007 film Once, in which he starred alongside Czech musician Markéta Irglová. Hansard also enjoyed a highly successful solo career, releasing acclaimed albums including Rhythm and Repose, Didn’t He Ramble and This Wild Willing.
