Brooklyn-based, UK/Nigerian artist Halima returns with new single ‘onyx’, out via drink sum wtr. An entirely self-produced cut – her first since before second EP ‘EXU’ – ‘onyx’ navigates the murky of terrains of heartbreak, moving bruised remonstrations to a place of catharsis, relief and distance. Built around steady staccato R&B production with pitched vocals, ‘onyx’ crescendoes with a striking guitar solo and a Timbaland-esque Sinogrime flourish. Of the track, Halima says:“Following a heartbreak that split me open, it felt right to work alone in the newness of solitude. Fresh off a tour with Sudan Archives, Halima is also building Club Cocoa, her own NY-based event series centered on queer, POC, and diasporic communities.
