The musicians were Duo Marier - Austin Miller (guitar) and Neil Sild (cello) - who met as students at the Royal Northern College of Music and are now based in Glasgow.
The programme at St Peter’s started with Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances, a suite based on tunes from Transylvania and originally written for flute or shepherd’s pipe.
Then a rarity, a Romantic era piece written for cello and guitar, Friedrich Burgmuller’s Nocturne No 1.
Music composed especially for guitar and cello was unusual until comparatively recently, with arrangements to the fore.
The final concert in the St Peter’s season (fundraisers for St Peter’s and Music in Peebles) is on Saturday, August 29 at 2.30pm, with No Borders Trio.
