The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has recommended extending summer vacations in flood-affected areas due to ongoing monsoon rains and flooding across several districts. In a letter to the School Education Department, PDMA advised that schools in affected areas should not reopen on August 20 as scheduled. PDMA officials said the decision is aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and school staff in areas impacted by flooding. The authority has also recommended assessing the cost of repairing and restoring damaged schools and other government buildings in the affected districts. The recommendations come as Punjab continues to face challenges from heavy monsoon rains, with authorities focusing on relief measures and the restoration of essential public services in flood-hit areas.
