Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a short-term continuing resolution (CR) that would extend federal funding through December 4, providing additional time for Congress to negotiate full-year FY 2027 appropriations before the current funding expires on September 30. The House approved the stopgap funding measure largely along party lines. House Republican leaders described the bill as a “clean” funding extension designed to prevent a government shutdown and allow more time to complete the FY 2027 appropriations process. In the Senate, leaders have indicated they may pursue a modified continuing resolution that includes targeted funding adjustments, known as “anomalies,” for programs that cannot effectively operate under level funding. ASPPH will continue to monitor the appropriations process and advocate for timely enactment of FY 2027 funding that strengthens public health research, workforce development, and academic public health programs.
