A Kentucky soldier killed during World War II will be buried on Wednesday at Kentucky Veteran’s Cemetery Central in Radcliff, exactly 82 years after he was killed. Mike R. McDowell, 19, of Trimble County, were not accounted for until January 29, 2026. “On July 29, 1944, during the Battle of Myitkyina, McDowell was killed in action, but the exact circumstances of his loss are unknown. His remains were not recovered at the time,” the DPAA said. Beginning in 2018, DPAA initiated a project to exhume remains believed to be associated with the Battle of Myitkyina.
