Directed by Storm Saulter and shot on location in both Bristol and Jamaica, the series blends gothic horror with colonial history to create what Saulter calls “tropical noir.” But every now and then I would watch a play or read a TV script and think “Well, I can do that.” At some point you have to put your money where your mouth is, and hopefully, people will respond positively. However, the colour, energy and tone feel wholly Caribbean; there’s a saturation, a brightness and colour that is distinctly Jamaican. Filming spanned both Bristol and Jamaica — how did shooting in two very different places shape the tone of the finished series?
