July 29, 2026 (Djibouti, Djibouti): The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, congratulates the Government and people of the Republic of Uganda following the official declaration that the country is Ebola free. The Executive Secretary commends the Government of Uganda, the Ministry of Health, frontline health workers, communities, and partners for their swift and coordinated response, which successfully contained the outbreak and prevented further transmission. Dr. Workneh called on Uganda to sustain strong surveillance, preparedness, and rapid response measures to safeguard against future outbreaks.
