Colas Rail has increased its revenue “in line with expectations” while broadening its pre-tax profit margin and increasing its order book. Construction activities remained the main revenue contributor, accounting for £287.2m or 67 per cent of the firm’s turnover – the same proportion as the year before. Colas Rail employed an average of 1,402 people throughout the year, down 32 on the average number stated in its previous accounts. No shareholder dividends were paid, but parent firm Colas Rail Holdings was paid £10.5m, down from £60m the previous year. Colas Rail also added £450,000 to its provision for potential future health-related claims from employees.
