Sole traders and landlords across Barnet and North London are being warned to check their readiness for the new Making Tax Digital (MTD) rules, which require quarterly updates to HMRC, with the first quarterly update due by 7 August 2026. David Ashdown, of tax compliance firm We Are MTD, said: "Barnet and the surrounding North London area has a large number of sole traders, landlords, tradespeople and small business owners who are busy getting on with their day-to-day work and may not have had time to focus on Making Tax Digital yet. The set-up process, the quarterly records and the year-end adjustments all need some thought." Under MTD, affected individuals must maintain digital records and submit quarterly summaries, rather than completing a single annual tax return.
