Around 15 members of staff evacuated the Hornsey Street Reuse and Recycling Centre along Caledonian Road before crews arrived as 10 tonnes of waste caught fire yesterday (July 28). While the fire was put out, the centre needs time to "clear away all the water" and carry out safety checks. The North London Waste Authority said: "We kindly ask residents to bear with us while we carry out this work. The London Fire Brigade said firefighters were first called about the incident at the facility adjacent to Cottage Road at 4.04 pm. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "The cause of the fire is not yet known."
