Drought declared in Hampshire as worsening dry spell hits rivers, farms and wildlife

The drought has led to falling river levels, early crop harvesting, increased wildfire risks, and water use restrictions for millions.
Helen Wakeham, director of water at the Environment Agency and chair of the National Drought Group, said: "The hot and dry weather means we are currently using water faster than nature can replenish it.
A major drought briefing was held on Tuesday, July 28, involving the National Drought Group.
The group includes the Met Office, government officials, regulators, water companies, farmers, the Canal & River Trust, anglers, and conservation experts.
Water companies were urged to focus on repairing leaks.
