Westmorland and Furness Council is set to begin the work in September at the Westmorland Shopping Centre car park in Kendal, responding to feedback from motorists and aiming to improve the experience for visitors to the town centre.
While the changes will reduce the overall number of parking spaces, the council has said the result will be a more accessible and user-friendly facility.
A broader review of parking across Kendal is also planned, with a parking study set to begin in August to assess current and future needs.
"The wider review of parking provision in Kendal will ensure that future parking arrangements meet the needs of the town and support its continued success."
The upcoming study will conclude by the end of March 2027 and shape the council’s future parking policies.
