On Monday (July 27), the council’s cabinet discussed a report setting out options for the potential redevelopment of Bexhill Town Hall. The site also includes 1 and 2 The Villas, the former Autolec premises, a pay-and-display car park and the council’s office buildings in Amherst Road. In a report to cabinet, officers set out how all of the potential options for redevelopment involved converting The Villas into a residential development. But cabinet members heard how the council has recently begun to let out The Villas on a commercial lease, meaning a redevelopment would result in a loss of income. Councillors heard how this had only been possible after work to bring the building “into a lettable condition.”
