The change will be made when Crawley Borough Council launches its weekly food waste collection service on September 28. Recycling and garden waste (by subscription) will still be collected fortnightly. Cllr Hilton advised that flats and other homes using communal bins would not be included in the food waste collection until a later date. A few weeks before food waste collections start, each household will receive a starter pack including a lockable 23-litre outdoor food waste bin with an orange lid and a five-litre indoor caddie, as well as a free starter roll of compostable liners. Figures from the council show that more than 44 per cent of the average Crawley household rubbish bin – by weight – is food waste.
