Leadership within the trust was previously rated as 'outstanding' by the CQC but has now been classed as 'needs improvement.' Amanda Williams, CQC deputy director of hospitals, secondary and specialist care for Surrey and Sussex described the staff as 'hard working.' Inspectors also identified other issues within the trust, including not addressing inequalities affecting those in more deprived areas, such as longer waits and lower appointment attendance. "We will continue to monitor the trust, including through future inspections, to ensure people remain safe while improvements are made." The trust provides healthcare services for approximately 744,000 people across East Surrey, West Sussex and South Croydon.
