The councillors from across Wyre Forest and Worcestershire have spoken out against a plan to sell a section of Burlish Country Park to Kidderminster Harriers FC for use as training pitches, which the club said will also support its academy and education programmes. Burlish Meadows, described as an important acidic grassland, has been restored over the past eight years and is home to rare and threatened species, and also cherished by hundreds of visitors to the area. In a joint open letter, the councillors said: "We, the undersigned local councillors, representing various wards in Wyre Forest and Worcestershire, express our opposition to the planned disposal of part of Burlish Meadows Conservation Area in a private sale to Kidderminster Harriers FC. Taking away 21 per cent of good quality, wildlife rich habitat for plastic football pitches is a disaster. I would like to see alternative sites considered as the impact on local wildlife will be huge and in my opinion cannot be mitigated."
