MENTION the name Wally Gibson to many rugby league fans in England and they will immediately recall the brilliant Indigenous full-back who starred for Huddersfield and Oldham during the 1990s. Although the proud Aboriginal man is long retired, his memories of that golden era in British rugby league remain as vivid as the day he arrived at Manchester Airport. “Dubbo is where I started my rugby league journey when I was taken down to the local South Dubbo Tigers club as a young kid. “I often tell these kids that rugby league helped me stay out of trouble and had me playing on the other side of the world where I felt wanted.
