Founded to spearhead South Africa’s fight against corruption, the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) is now battling to gain the country's confidence back. Testimony before the Madlanga Commission and Parliament’s ad hoc committee has cast a shadow over IDAC, raising tough questions about its leadership and future. Former IDAC head Andrea Johnson faced tough questions over allegations relating to IDAC’s conduct and decision-making. The challenge facing IDAC is now bigger than a leadership controversy. It is about preserving the integrity of one of the country’s most important anti-corruption institutions because in the fight against corruption, public trust is just as important as successful prosecutions.
