Cheap Dubai Gold scam: Hyderabad businessman loses Rs 2 crore; habitual offender arrested

Hyderabad: Promising imported gold from Dubai and Sri Lanka at throwaway prices, an alleged interstate scammer cheated a Hyderabad businessman of Rs 2 crore before being arrested by the Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS).
How the scam workedAccording to police, Lakshmikanth Reddy claimed he had contacts with foreign gold suppliers and promised to procure imported gold from Dubai and Sri Lanka via Mumbai at prices much lower than the prevailing market rate.
To make the scheme appear genuine, he allegedly sent WhatsApp videos showing gold biscuits purportedly ready for transportation, convincing victims that the consignments were authentic.
Tempted by the promise of quick and substantial profits, the complainant transferred nearly Rs 2 crore to the accused.
Organised crime charges invokedPolice said Lakshmikanth Reddy is a habitual offender with six criminal cases registered against him in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh involving cheating, criminal breach of trust, kidnapping, intimidation and financial fraud.
