A new report from BofA Global Research, based on Sensor Tower data, has put out a ranking of the apps Indians spend the most time on every month, and the numbers are a reminder of just how much of daily life in the country now runs through a handful of screens.
Instagram tops the list, with the average Indian user spending 49 hours and 42 minutes on the app every month.
YouTube isn’t far behind at 47 hours and 23 minutes, which puts the two apps roughly 80 minutes apart in monthly usage, both comfortably ahead of everything else on the list.
Further down the list are the short-video and local content apps that emerged after TikTok’s ban in 2020 — PLAYit, Kuku TV, and Moj — sitting between 15 and 18 hours a month.
What the numbers ultimately point to is a country where video, in one form or another, eats up almost all the time people spend on their phones.
